Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know this author is not Catholic, what I want to know is if anyone is familiar with her books on women of the Bible. I think they are called novellas. I read the one about Ruth and found it very good and an interesting way of seeing the story. I'd like to read them to dd10. Does anyone know of any objectionalbe material I should be aware of or a good Catholic substitute for books written in story form on women from the Old Testament? Thanks, Valerie

I would caution you against these books. Francine Rivers was a former romance novelist and it shows. I have read a couple, one was ok, one was very sexual. I realize there are stories of a sexual nature in the Bible BUT this is not the word of God. This is her dramatization of these stories. I think just reading the Bible and giving YOUR take on it would be best. If you do decided to use them, I would definitely read them first and leave out questionable areas.

I haven't read that particular series but I did read her Mark of the Lion series and I found those to be excellent...albeit more realistically graphic than I would have liked. If you like historical fiction, especially the times of the early Church, this a "can't put down" great read.

I did read and enjoy some of the books a few years ago. I remember that I decided not to read the "Mary" book as she and Joseph have more children.

For kids, I think there are probably better choices out there...
