Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It had it 's good moments, don't get me wrong. But of course I needed to blog about it.
I don't think we belong here...

I wish sacramental retreats were more spiritual. After all, that is why we were told we had to go...for a spiritual experience before Confirmation.

God love you,

Oh Donna Marie,
I am sorry that the "retreat" was so....unspiritual. We went through the same thing with my oldest. I had prepared him for confirmation probably the same you have for your dds. Catechism, Bible study (the Jeff Cavin's Great Bible Adventure,) apologetics (Scott Hahn and David Currie's books,) a long tape series of the Creed by Father Hardon, many saint stories, long discussions, donations of time to others in need, etc. I was told by the DRE that those were "nice extras" but that he really needed to attend the classes and that the OVERNIGHT retreat (boy/girl) was mandatory.
I removed him from the classes after he was instructed in the "small s sacraments," shown a filmstrip of sunsets/people kissing/trees/a terrorist with a gun/someone shooting up a drug... and told that these were all a "sacrament," because even though some of the actions were wrong, God was still there, making it a sacrament.
For the retreat, I ended up picking him up at 10 pm and took him back the next morning. Their retreat consisted of videotaping a play they acted out and bowling. No confession or Mass. It was held in a monastery. I never thought about asking to attend (but it was in Feb. which is tax time here and I had littles still, nursing.)
It was so frustrating for me. The comments made to you and your dds by the retreat personnel are ...amazing!

God bless your dds' on their upcoming confirmation!
