Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just wanted to make a comment about this book. I think it is mentioned as a supplement in Catholic Mosaic but not specifically treated. I loved this book and I think it works well for younger kids but there is one big glaring error in it. During the twelth station of the cross, the book states, "He (Jesus) pleaded with God to tell him why he had been left alone to suffer. And then he died."

That is absolutely not a correct statement. Jesus was quoting Psalm 22 and fulfilling it's prophesying by calling out of the cross. It has nothing to do with him feeling abandoned but rather it was a sign that Jesus was acknowledging his Sonship. This is a summary from the Navarre commentary on the Gospel of Mark 15:34-35....

Psalm 22 is the prayer of a just man who, hunted, feels utterly alone and scorned by men. This is the depths of total misery, and the just man turns to God saying, "My God, my God, why art thou so far from helping me...Since my mother bore me thou has been my God...But thou, O Lord, be not far off! O thou hasten to my aid!" (verses 2, 10, 19). These words do not express complete despair far from it, these words reveal Christs complete trust in his heavenly Father, the only one whom Jesus or any of us can depend up for in the midst of suffering. The heavenly Father to whom Jesus turned to as a Son and to whom we can turn to as a Father. "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received teh Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba Father." The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs-heirs of Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together." Romans 8:14-17. And we remember that God permits evil to happen to us, so that we can place all our trust in him who draws good from evil for those who love him. "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose..." Romans 8:28.

I just wanted to post this because I have seen this particular kind of error propagated before in adult literature and I never new how to counter it before but when I saw it in a child's book I felt that it was time for me to do the research.

In situations like this how would you share with your dc?
Change text verbally as you read it? , white out and write in new text (what new text?).

Simply discuss it?

I worry about physicalling editing books but there are times crossing out a single word can make an unacceptable book a great one.

I haven't defaced the book physically, although I have considered it. I explained that the author was incorrect and that this was a common error, especially among some Protestants. I have heard it alot from some mainstream Protestants. So I told my oldest who is 8 that this was a fulfillment of Psalm 22 and left it there. When more of my kids can read, I might consider crossing it out...I haven't decided yet. But I do routinely change a word here or there in other books.
