Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What do you do for faith formation with your 5 year old? Do you do daily lessons, weekly lessons? What will you have your five year old do for Lent?

Thank You,

Elizabeth

participate in things we do as a family.. that way what's being done is being modeled.

We talk about why we don't eat meat on Fridays. And as a family we attend Stations of the Cross each Friday of Lent.

And we talk about the differences in Church.. what the purple vestments mean and such.

I've also heard the suggestion if they want to give up something (like they see others in the family doing so) to help them give up a reasonable amount for their age.. like giving up candy will still allow them to have donuts or cake or cookies.. you want them to be able to notice it.. but not make it so hard that they won't see any success. Reducing the category of whatever it is so that they can be successful. Giving up tv after school (but not in the evening with the family) giving up something on every Monday but not the other days.. things like that.. And they'll need lots of help and reminders as well as talking about why you do this and what's the point and such.

Success builds on success.. challenges that they can win encourage trying new ones.. and harder ones.

I use Seton Religion with the girls along with reading Bible stories and Saint stories. We do this weekly. We try and pray the rosary daily. A good book i found in our library is A Peek Into My church. It was really helpful in explaining a lot of things for my girls and on their level.

For Lent, we're going to try and participate in all the things the Church will do for the season. I have a 3mo and it can be hard to bring her along sometimes. We will abstain from meat on fridays and they've decided to give up playing their gameboy DS for Lent. They only play it on the weekends, if they remember, so i dont think it will be too difficult for them.

We use to go to daily Mass but havent lately. It's very difficult to go with my 3mo.
