What are YOU reading for Lent? I am trying to come up with some ideas. Dh and I have our Christian Prayer and will be starting praying the Liturgy of the Hours next week (still figuring it all out) - but I am stuck on reading.

I was thinking about reading Lord Have Mercy: The Healing Power of Confession by Scott Hahn
I picked it up a while back and haven't had the focus to read it (even notice different types of reading take different focus?).. thinking I might be able to work at it for Lent.

A friend gave me a couple of books, one on the life of Zelie Martin and the other on the life of Louis Martin. They are short, but I haven't had a chance to read them yet. I am hoping to do that during Lent.

I will be reading either The Fire in the Cloud or The King, Crucified and Risen by Groeschel for my daily meditations. The first is meatier, but takes more time. So I might end up using Fr Groeschel's book mainly. 
For other spiritual reading I was thinking about Introduction to the Devout Life. I love St Francis deSales.
It has been a while since I have read any Scott Hahn, though, so that is a good suggestion. I need something to light a fire!

This isn't really a lent book per se, but I have a short little book I'm trying to read and soak in this Lent
It's called Searching For and Maintaining Peace by Fr. Jacques Philippe
It's beautiful and powerful and easy to read.
I think I'll want some others too though -- more Passion focused -- so I'm excited at the recommendations on here.

I just finished Msgr. Benson's Come Rack! Come Rope!, and by the end, I was thinking to myself, "I should have waited a couple weeks and read this during Lent!" It really brought home the sacrifice of the English martyrs--lots of spiritual food for thought. So if you're looking for some Lent-appropriate fiction to read...
I already posted this somewhere else, but I'll be working through The Introduction to the Devout Life again--love that book! And maybe some Scott Hahn too.

A friend recommended, "What Jesus Saw from the Cross," by A.G. Sertillanges. With endorsements from Mother Teresa, Benedict Groeschel, and JPII, I don't see how one could go wrong in reading this book.
Here is an excerpt from the prologue. originally written in 1948:
"St. Paul exhorts us to, "put on Jesus Christ," and his words, understood in the spiritual sense in which he intended them, are of immeasurable importance...We may put on Jesus Christ in imagination, placing ourselves not at the foot of the Cross, nor before it, but upon it, with head bowed beneath the inscription, wearing the crown of thorns, pierced by the nails, feeling the cold, rough wood between our shoulders...so that we have changed places with Him , it is no longer we who live but Christ who lives in us.
Let us, then, without further delay open our eyes, the eyes of our body and the eyes of our intelligence, with Jesus Christ. As we "put on" Jesus Christ let us wed ourselves to His mind and His heart. So it may be that the invisible world in which His Soul moves will appear more vividly to us, and perhaps we may be granted the grace of a more intimate union with Him."
I suppose I should stop lest I quote the whole book. Sounds like a beautiful, deep read for Lent.

I picked up a small booklet after Mass yesterday from Sacred Space for Lent 2008 which is online at those previous links too. Daily meditations, I guess. We'll give it a shot.

I'm reading Preparing for Easter by Clifford Howell SJ - not the most inspiring read - but I guess its good to go over the basics. Trying to get through one sermon a week - it started with Septuagesima. I'll have a look through Elizabeth's suggestions. Thanks, Elizabeth.

I've had the book "I Believe in Love" (a personal retreat based on the teaching of St. Therese of Lisieux)by Father Jean C.J. d'Elbee for a long time so I'm planning to read it this year!

I have that book too! Thanks for reminding me, I don't think I finished it completely. I had a few post-it notes marking some bits I wanted to remember, but small people kept removing them - a bit discouraging. He quoted St Therese about approaching God with hands empty which resounded with me when so many tell me I have my hands full. The frustrating thing when you have your hands full is that you can't pick up things. My hands are busy with the gifts on loan from God, I must go His way, say no to my own hobbies and let God work in me. Hope you enjoy the book, Lisa.

WOW this book sure is popular right now. I have been reading it, every time, it seems, I tell someone about it, they tell me they too are reading it. I highly recommend it

I have a small booklet with daily readings from CS Lewis. I am also reading the Illuminated Heart and I think I will pick up Imitation of Christ again off the bedside table.

For all your teen girls, Privilege of Being a Woman by Alice VonHildebrand is a WONDERFUL read; for us older folks too (particularly those of us raised in the "you can do it all and definitely should" era).
I'm also reading Edith Stein's Essays on Woman.
