Inspired by CKwasniewski's post in MotherNuture:
The one thing we always do that's special for New Year is pick a patron saint for the year. We put all the names (approx 100) in a bowl, say a prayer and draw a saint. That's the saint to pray to and "get to know" for the year.
we picked patron saints for the year this morning. I put one for every letter of the alphabet into a pretty wine glass with a bow tied around it, and we each picked one. The kids were very excited. What a great idea... and a great jumping off place for more discussions (pope, martyrs, miracles... the possibilities are endless).
Thanks for this great idea!

We do this every New Years Eve and love it! We use our Holy Traders cards and thow them all into a bag. It's fun to read up on the new saints we pick every year!

I love this idea!
We were not sure how to choose our saints as we've not done this before (we are Catholic converts, though my husband is a cradle Catholic who came home to the Church two years ago)then I had an idea to choose the saints of our birthdays.
I'm really looking forward to doing this!

Thanks to one of Amy's posts last year, we just did this for our second year. We did not have Holy Traders cards.......so, we take all four of the Butler's Lives of the Saints books, mix them up, pick a book, then open the book and take the saint on the page. Then, we request their aid in our daily prayers, often by name, but sometimes when we are in a hurry, we ask for the intercession of the "Eight Holy Helpers"
there are eight of us in the family.....it is a play on the "14 Holy Helpers".....if you do not know who they are, look them up.....they make great friends!!
Thanks, Amy, again, for the idea.

You are very welcome, and I love your idea of the 8 Holy Helpers! I'm going to have to steal that (seven, here).

We followed Amy's idea from last year too. We had done it last year but did not do too much followup. This year I plan on really incorporating the saints we chose today. Thanks for the great idea, Amy!
