I would really like to give our 13dd a book to read on her own during her morning meditation time. Our 18dd reads "The Imitation of Christ" for 20 minutes every morning and I'd like to have Mg do the same.
Any suggestions?

Guardini's book, Preparing yourself for Mass might be good. It's clear, simple and with short sections.
Ann Ball is well known for her apologetics series Prove it!, but she also did 2 vols. of lives of the saints which are very nice, with photos. Modern Saints, Their lives and Faces.
In general, lives of saints make great spiritual reading.
The Cure of Ars has a little book of Eucharistic meditations. Again, short and sweet. But very deep.
I'll keep thinking....

Bumping this because I'm watching it closely. I have an 11yo dd who needs some kind of focus in spiritual reading. She's quite mature for her age, but not ready for anything adult.
Anyone else out there have some suggestions??

Just a slight correction here, in case someone is having difficulty finding this series. It's authored by Amy Welborn, not Ann Ball.  They are very engaging texts, and I think they are perfect for those just entering the teen years.

My daughter loves this book. It is very beautiful.
She also read (more than once) Anne Catherine Emmerich's revelations about Christ. I can't remember the exact title but it was from Tan publishers.

A Life for God: The Mother Teresa Reader.
This is selections from her writings. All very short, practical and profound.... Accessible at lots of levels.

What about "Mornings With Therese of Lisieux : 120 daily Readings"? They are short excerpts from her writings, but such a lot of 'meat' in these exquisite passages for any woman to meditate on. I have it put aside for my 13yo to use this year as a personal devotional.

I think it's the same name but the cover looks different. I looked at the Tan website and found this:
Dolorous Passion
This looks like one volume. I thought we had the four volume set. I didn't see a choice for four volumes.
I just asked my daughter if she found the book hard to read. She said it read like a story just describing what happened.
The Tan site says it is "good for the whole family."
I even found the Dolorous Passion on sale at Blackstone Audio books awhile ago.

Just jumping in to say thank you as well ladies. I bought "The Catholic Girl's Guide" as well as "Mornings with Therese of Lisieux."
I may also order "A Life for God: The Mother Theresa Reader." Still trying to decide. These will make wonderful birthday gifts.

The book came in lat week and it is absolutely incredible!!! My 13dd has ben reading it in the mornings and before bed. It has a lot of beautiful prayers and great devotions and passages from the Bible. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who has teenage girls, or maybe even younger. Beautiful book!!!

A little late on my recommendation of the above book, but the Girl's (just ordered, soon to be used) and Boy's Guide are heavily used here. We've just started. My son and I read the first 10 pages and discussed it, but I'm finding that I want to preread (about 10 pages at a time, it's heavy reading) and put together some questions so that we can work what we've read into an open-ended discussion. I find with him it's easier to ask pre-thought-out questions. If I don't, I get answers like, "uh-huh." "It was OK, but I didn't really get it."
I also just ordered a book called Children's Retreats. I look forward to using this for small retreats with my children prior to First Confession, First Communion, and Confirmation.

I have 14 and 12 yo dds, so I am following this thread with interest. I really respect your opinions and would love to see this book! In humility, I wonder if there is any other source for the Catholic Girl's Guide? I personally choose not to buy materials from vendors that reject the authority of Vatican II. I am assuming the book does not...

I purchased the book from All Catholic Books. Please pm me if that vendor rejects the authority of Vatican II as I would find that very disturbing.

Since on different distributor or publishers sites it's not neccesarily made public as to whether they accept the pope and Vatican II or not, we can't draw conclusions publicly.
The publisher All Catholic Books seems to carry a large variety of books and publications from all sorts of Catholic publishers.
The suggestion to take any such specific discussion offline to private message is wise and appreciated in this case.

My 12yo dd and I read through Imitation of Mary by Alexander de Rouville and published by Catholic Book Publishing, last year and found it quite inspirational. I have also read it on my own, as it is very adaptable to different ages, according to level of understanding.
I keep it in a basket of books I come back to again and again, as I keep getting more from them each time I read them.
