Hey y'all .... we had a discussion last year about the O Antiphons and I FINALLY got my "antiphon house" put together yesterday (thanks to the snow!). Here is a link to the post that I did so you can see pictures of what I'm talking about.
Here are links to discussions last year about this very subject:
O Antiphon activities -- some of the links don't work anymore as some folks have closed or moved their blogs but at least you'll get an idea ...
O Antiphons and gifts of the Holy Spirit discussion
putting together an Advent/Christmas notebook
link to Alice's wonderful Advent Cubes idea (which I "stole" last year!)
link to Illuminated Ink's O Antiphon cards
Now, it may be too late for some of these ideas this year .... but do what I've finally learned to do -- print off and put in an "Advent Ideas" folder for next year .... you'll be so happy you did!

I am curious to know how different families do the O Antiphons. My husband prefers to do them in Latin, but I want to know what I am saying so we do them in both English and Latin. I know a family who sings O Come O Come Emmanuel backwards (since the first antiphon is the last verse). How do you all do them?

Mary, I hear you! I had never even heard of the O Antiphons until I saw them here last year. AND if it weren't written in the piano book, I wouldn't realize that they were the verses of O Come O Come Emmanuel either.
This year for our evening grace, I have played (badly and getting worse each day) 2 verses of O Come O Come Emmanuel. The kids sing (started poorly but are getting better each day) 2 verses. We started with the first 2 verses the first week of Advent, and then the next week switched to the next 2. By Christmas, we'll have done all 8.

I've never heard of this. (I'm not Catholic). I enjoyed reading about it. You guys have such informative blogs.
My question is:
How do your pronounce Antiphons? Is it O Anti-fons? Or Anti (short i) fons?
Thanks.

thank you, Mary!
It'a always a challenge when you read something new and then you think "how do I pronounce this?"

On my blog on the sidebar, I posted a link to the O Antiphons sung in latin. They are beautiful and we have been enjoying them!
