I finally have most of my stuff together for the advent presentations from Moira's 3-6 album. Better late than never! I was just wondering if anyone wants to share how (or if) their presentations are going. I was so inspired by all of the sharing at Easter time, I'm hoping to get similarly inspired for the rest of the year!LOL! So, LETS SHARE!
You can see my latest here:Meet the Prophets

Those look great Theresa!! I have to admit that now that I'm 36 weeks, I am SLOWING down... and my presentations aren't as "prepared" as they could be (but probably the best under the circumstances!!)
I sort of combined her 3-5 and 6-9 presentations together since she had the same presentations, but with different age appropriate things. In 6-9, she uses a Scripture card, which I made for Isaiah and Micah and then had my 6 year old use that for memorization and copywork during the week. (BTW -- My Michah and Isaiah look exactly the same and... they do have beards but they got hidden by their scrolls!!)
I'm getting ready for the Visitation -- I have more supplies for the house but I'm too lazy to post them yet!!
Here's Isaiah -- Micah looks just like him with a Bethlehem card and scroll to differentiate them. (I got lazy and didn't post Micah).
Sometime this weekend we plan to do the Annunciation. Then next weekend the Visitation. And then on the 24th, we'll do a Birth of Jesus presentation!!
Thanks for posting -- maybe this will give me more enthusiasm in my slug status!!

I love the Advent presentations, and they have been so easy this year since I made all my materials last year. Mary's and Elizabeth's houses are lame though (made out of old cereal boxes) so I was hoping to make some better ones out of wood or possibly felt. But I'm not sure that is going to happen this year!
Also my poor prophet Isaiah had an unfortunate incident- I left him on the table for my kids to work with- my one year old dunked him into a mug of hot chocolate!
He rinsed off alright, but is a bit more brown and stiff then previously.
Here is Isaiah pre-hot cocoa bath.

Maryan and Andrea, those look wonderful! I love the idea of the wooden box for the houses.
For my presentations I just use the same box and I decorate a piece of scrapbooking paper and stick it in the lid to make a different backdrop for each one. That way it is easy to change out for each presentation and they don't take up a bunch of space. I keep them all in a scrapbook, filed by order of use.
You can see one of my backdrops here:upper roomwhich you probably saw before. I'll put up pics of the Mary house backdrop(it is very simple) soon.

I have all of the materials from last year and I've only done the Beginning Advent presentation. I wanted to include my dh in them this year. My idea was to do them at dinner time, but that time of day is usually so chaotic. Thanks for bringing this up, Theresa. Your prophet figures look great, and it's good to hear "better late than never." I'll post about mine when I get them going.

Theresa, I love your box with changeable backdrop idea! I am running out of storage space here, that is a great solution.
Cheryl, you bring up a good point about timing the presentations. I have trouble with this also. This time of year is so busy anyway and we are also doing the Jesse tree and Advent wreath at dinner. Also I have had problems in the past with my kids acting goofy during group presentations, one starts the sillies and it spreads like wildfire. I am trying to do individual presentations instead. This makes it eaven harder to fit in, but so far the presentations are calmer.

Mine haven't been going all that great.
The Advent presentations at least.
Might be because I don't have cool figures like you all. Or, because ds was so into the altar presentations. I am working on finding better figures, or planning for nicer ones, for next year.
I am enjoying checking out your blogs and how you have done things.
Thanks,
Anne

Maryan and Theresa, I'm utterly inspired - the BOX with interchangeable backgrounds!!!!!!!!! YES! The houses have been the big hold-up for me. I have been waiting and waiting for my nice wool felt to come in along with my wool flocking. Waiting for it has set me behind a little, but I kept wondering how or what to tackle the houses out of. My felt and flocking came in just yesterday! I'm set! I'm off tonight to Hobby Lobby to find a couple of simple wooden boxes for the houses...got plenty of scrapbooking paper as Theresa suggests.
Oh ladies, thank you for the awesome ideas. Thanks for starting this timely thread Theresa.

I too have had trouble sometimes with kids acting goofy and have tried doing them individually as well. I think that was why I wanted to include my dh. I haven't tried it yet, so I still don't know if his presence will calm the kids.

FYI -- In the past ALL of our presentations were done with Daddy (it's basketball season now, so he's not around as much)... and they went VERY well. He was very reverent and the boys wanted to imitate his demeanor.
Because we've been pressed for time this Advent as well, we did the Isaiah and Micah presentations at night just before saying the rosary... with the lights dim and candles lit. That went well too.

Well, I haven't done ANY presentations, but I wanted to share a pleasant surprise.
Drew, our recently turned 5yo, attends "church school" at our parish on Sunday morning. A couple of months ago, we received a handout from the teacher about how it's important to expose our children to the Mass. The handout was actually something from Maria Montessori.
The next clue that Drew was being exposed to a Montessori approach to religious ed (if not strict CGS), was the work they were doing with liturgical colors and the vestments.
Yesterday, I overheard Drew talking about the Dead Sea...how it was very salty. I asked if he learned about that in class, and he affirmed that he did. I asked if he worked w/a map or a puzzle, and again he said he had. They also did some Advent stuff, but I'm sure he missed some of the suggested presentations for Advent when he missed class due to illness.
It's just a happy coincidence that he is in this class. Our parish doesn't advertise anyone teaching CGS or taking a Montessori approach, but there is definitely a Montessori flavor to Drew's class this year and he is loving it.
