I noticed you also asked about conversion stories, I'm a cradle Catholic, but was brought to tears reading Scott and Kimberly Hahn's conversion story -- Home Sweet Rome.

RCIA programs usually have a specific start date and different Rites that you participate in during the year. I'm sure that you can join at any point, just speak to the priest at the parish.

Another option for already baptized Christians wanting to be received into full communion: private instruction. My husband and I were privately instructed by a priest and privately received into the Church on February 23, 2001.
