Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi!

I'm looking for a couple of recommendations for my almost 9 year old daughter for Christmas. She loves to read, and I want to get her a few new books of the saints as she likes them. We've been having some issues as she has a STRONG will; I was wondering if there were any female saints that had a rebellious streak, and a slow conversion like Augustine. It seems most of the ones I'm familiar with were "called" at a young age.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Well, St. Catherine of Siena did not start out bad, but she was "rebellious" to her parents wishes that she marry. She cut off her hair and gave it to the man who came to ask for her hand! She certainly had a strong will!!

St. Teresa of Avila did not start out a saint. She liked to read novels, dance and get dressed up, when young and she said she broke a lot of rules when she was first in the convent. Later she regretted that a lot!

The Forbes bios of these two might be a good choice.

Wasn't Therese of Lisieux considered very stubborn as a child? Before her 'conversion' as she called it?

St. Rose of Lima was very strong-minded, too.
