Each year, our parish has an Advent party. The problem is I wouldn't call it a party at all. Instead of going to their Faith Formation classes, the children come into the hall for activities.
Last year, the teens were supposed to supervise activities. Not one teen showed up. Which isn't bad at all because parents just stepped in where needed.
However, each year it gets worse and worse. (This is only our third year at this parish, but the party can't handle getting worse than last year ) There were only two activities last year....making an Advent wreath, which takes a lot of adult help, and Jesse Tree coloring sheets.
There isn't ever a call for volunteers. I have no idea who does the planning or if the need help.
I'm not sure who to talk to. Father has a lot going on and I'd feel awful bothering him. Just call the parish?
Stay out of it?
Any suggestions?

Michaela,
I'd email the pastor (cc the dre and parish secty) and offer to run it. I'd get the teen group to commit to help (names and phone numbers are a must!) and ask the old folks (do you have an altar/rosary guild?) to help out too (maybe they could do the refreshments?).
I'd plan stories and do-able activities for all the age groups. I'd get ALL in the parish involved ... not just the littles fut the older kids too ...
But that's just me

I apologize for the delay in responding. Occasionally, I have a bit of difficulty logging on to the forum.
Thank you, Mary, for the suggestions! I've drafted an email to send today and plan to follow-up in person this week. 8-)

Well, at least I tried.
After not receiving one response to my email, I spoke to the person in charge of the party. No help is needed. My name will be "penciled in" as interested in helping.
I don't understand how things work I guess. We are constantly asked to help at the parish with our time not just tithe. I've practically begged to scrub pews, stuff bullitens, help during breakfast cleanup (I sit in a hall waiting for my children to get out of class doing nothing. I'm AVAILABLE.), .....I'm basically patted on the head.
Oh well, I'm done begging for a while. They know I'm available. I'm not sure why it hurts, but it does.
