Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Well, my altar linens are done. A good friend sewed them for me and I have no excuse now not to do our first few presentations.
I need some coaching.
I am nervous about keeping the kids on track with my presentation. They love to play Mass and while we have never used the mini Mass kit, we use kitchen stuff, I think they are going to want to take off on their own.
When they want to play with it later do I stand by and make sure they use it correctly? Do I "impede" their creativity in play to teach them the proper way to set up or do whatever? I am seeing some issues especially with dd who is 4 years.
Any advice for a first timer would be so appreciated. I am excited to start but just a leetle nervous
Anne

I had the same concerns when I started last year with my 5yo dd and 3yo grandson. But I talked to dc ahead of time and told them that these were very special materials and they were to be treated just like father treats the ones at mass.I had them recall how reverently and carefully he handles them, how the altar servers treat them, and how he carefully cleans them after communion. Since they look so much like the real thing they were eager to treat them the same way, even the 3 year old. Also, during the presentations I modeled this careful attitude and it really worked well. They imitated me to a T!
I also stood by the first few times they worked with them on their own to make sure the proper care was taken and they really did treat them specially.

Anne, I have no training, so I suggest following the advice of the experts -- but here's how we do it:

We do the presentation on Friday with Daddy until they do it without mistakes. Once they can do it without mistakes, then I let them set it up by themselves during the week... but they need to let me know first. (Due to the other little ones lurking around -- it could easily become "Mass" chaos.)

I just do it this way with the Mass materials because I think they should understand that sacred objects should be used very carefully and in a certain way.

Maryan, too funny! Anne, I second and third what the ladies have already said here!! The more careful and reverent you do the presentation, they will follow your lead! Let us know how it goes!

Blessings!

Don't try to provide too much information at first. With the altar just having candles, chailce, paten, altar cloth and crucifix are enough for the first presentation. Just provide the words of what each are....they will provide plenty of other info for you.
I pick up the item and say "the chalice" then put it down. etc.
