Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I took the children on a random trip to the seaside on Friday -- random because we ended up in a rather grim place, Canvey Island.

Anyway, on the sea front there was a large graffiti'd notice saying 'Canvey is England's Lourdes'. Does anyone know anything about this? Apart from discovering that the local Catholic church is dedicated to Our Lady of Canvey, I couldn't find anything on the internet.

I saw that on your blog, Elizabeth and wondered what it meant too. I'd love to know!

I found this link... something about Marian apparitions to Nora Arthurs in Canvey, England back in the 1980's...

I'm guessing the grafitti would be connected with the 1980s "apparitions" . There must be something more there if the Church is dedicated to Our Lady of Canvey - probably a pre-Reformation connection with Our Lady of some sort. You could try emailing the parish priest for information.
