Has anyone seen the movie Maximilian: Saint of Auschwitz? I;d be thankful for a review before purchasing the DVD. 
I'd like to do something for his Feast Day.
Catholic Culture suggests reading about Auschwitz.
Random thoughts of possible things to do....
St. Maximilian Kolbe was starved; donate to a food bank (our parish collects food donations).
He is patron to prisoners;
Discuss or study the 7 Corporal Works of Mercy.
1. Feed the hungry
2. Give drink to the thirsty
3. Clothe the naked
4. Visit the imprisoned
5. Shelter the homeless
6. Visit the sick
7. Bury the dead
Read Matthew 25:31-46. (The Judgement/ The separation of the Goats & Sheep)
During his imprisonment in Auschwitz, he must have went through all these sufferings.... Matthew 25:42 for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; 43 I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.'
What do you do to celebrate his Feast Day (activities, recipes, reflections, ect.) ?

Find out about the Militia of the Immaculata he founded. Discuss his Marian devotion and consecration - also Mary as Mediatrix of all graces.

I was going to mention the Militia Immaculata, you could enroll your family. They prefer you do it on a Marian Feast Day, so the 15th would be perfect.
Since he was originally from Poland, maybe some Polish cuisine.
He is also the patron of journalists. Maybe taking a field trip to a newspaper publisher... if they still allow that kind of thing?

Great ideas. He had such a devotion to Our Lady, and it's so fitting that his "birthday" into heaven was the day before the feast of the Assumption.
He used to carry around many blessed Miraculous medals, and distributed them widely. He referred to the medal as the "silver bullet", because the through Mary's intercession many hearts were changed.

I was thinking about making "Our Lady's knights" shields in honor of both St. Maximillian and the Assumption. I looked up some stuff on heraldry... We'll see how it goes.
Oh, and I stumbled across something regarding the day before Assumption traditionally being a fast day--fits in perfectly with fasting with St. Maximillian.

I thought I'd seen the film, but it's a different one -- Leben fur Leben, which was very long and drawn out and difficult to watch (but not in a good way IYSWIM).
We're doing a novena for dh in honour of St Maximilian and as he's one of our patrons we'll be feasting rather than fasting!

I really like the St. Luke stuff--the actor is the one who put together the St. Therese movie and played her father. I think this was his first one-man show!

Thank you for the reminder that tomorrow is his feast day. I have a nephew, Colby, who survived thyroid cancer. His major surgery was done in California at a hospital which, as it turned out, is associated with St. Kolbe's Catholic Church. The priest from St. Kolbe's came to see him in the hospital.
It's an interesting story: he was diagnosed at age 9 with advanced thyroid cancer, and my sister had to take him across country to find a doctor who was able and willing to treat this disease in a young child. He had a huge operation and had over one hundred lymph nodes removed, as well as his thyroid gland.
My sister was with him for several weeks in California, and one day she went into a gift shop in town just as a means to pass time and take her mind off worrying for a while. Inside the shop she began to talk to the woman behind the counter- just chit chat, nothing personal. She did not mention her son or his surgery.
After several minutes the woman asked what had brought her into the shop that day. My sister replied that she had just stopped in to browse. The woman then told her: "No, the Lord sent you into my shop today so that I could tell you that your son Colby will live and be healed. " The woman then removed a scarf from her neck and said, "I am also a survivor of thyroid cancer" and showed my sister the scar on her neck.
My family has a tremendous devotion to St. Kolbe, and I retell this story to honor him and encourage devotion to him. He was devoted to Our Lady, and I believe that through their combined intercession my nephew was saved. He will be 14 next month.

Today is the anniversary of my youngest daughters baptism, and her Godfathers(my son Rob) Patron Saint! We will be spending much time today discussing St. Maximillian Kolbe.
Oh, and I took Rob to a local parish when he was about 16 to see the one man show about this wonderful saint. We got to meet the man(whose name I can't place right now) from St. Luke productions. Actually, we got to see a clip from St. Therese, which was still in production.

My now 18 yos chose St. Max as his confirmation saint ... and Joe is starting his Fall Semester at LSU so this is a particularly good day to pray for St. Max's intercession.
Here's a particularly good quote that could be done for copywork today:

We are putting on a little play for a young married couple expecting their first baby who are coming by to visit us, then saying the rosary with them...then having a special treat since it is our Kolbe's nameday...the kids decided on sugar cookies with blue frosting (for his Marian devotion) and a white cross to symbolize his martyrdom--all my lobbying for Polish apple cake went unnoticed, but there are a few more Polish feast days coming and I think I'll choose for those!
