I'm at my mom's, with all my books and resources at home. Here's my question-in each of these time frames, what are the two or three feast days that you feel are the most important to celebrate/saints to learn about? This past school year I planned on hitting every feast day and ending up actually celebrating very few. So I'm going to start small for this year! Here are the breakdowns:
July 1-Aug 4
Aug 19-Sept 29
Oct 7-Nov 17
Dec 2-29
Jan 6-Feb 16
Feb 24-Apr 5
Apr 13- May 24

Since I'm assuming Christmas and Easter are givens:

July 1-Aug 4 St. St. Benedict, St. James the Greater, St. Ignatius
Aug 19-Sept 29 Nativity of Mary, Triumph of Holy Cross, Feast of the Archangels
Oct 7-Nov 17 Our Lady of the Rosary, St. Luke, All Saints & All Souls
Dec 2-29 St. Nicholas, Immacualate Conception, Our Lady of Guadalupe
Jan 6-Feb 16 Epiphany, Baptism of the Lord, Presentation
Feb 24-Apr 5 St. Patrick, St. Joseph, Annunciation,
Apr 13- May 24 Divine Mercy, Ascension, Pentecost

I like Mary's list...streamlined, focused on solemnities and feast days. My mantra echoes the Church on the Liturgical Calendar. The seasons and Sundays which follow the life of Christ are the most important days to celebrate. Next come Solemnities, then Feasts.

While learning about the saints is so good, they are the background, supporting cast. I say only pick a few that relate to your family (patrons), what you're learning (maybe Apostles one year). Keep it simple. All you have to do is mention the saint, if you have a reading or book about the saint, and a simple "St. ____, pray for us.

Celebrating saints days should never rival or overshadow the larger feast days and Liturgical seasons.

Great minds think alike as I just sat down today to plan out some feast days so that I could pre-plan some crafts and/or activities! I don't like coming up with things at the last minute.

My list is similar to Mary's above. I selected a few that had "easy craft" pop into my head, such as Aug. 22nd being the Queenship of Mary! Crowns would be fun to make. ;-) I included our family's feast days and baptism anniversaries as well.

Right now I'm working on June 24th's feast of John the Baptist. I have some coloring pages printed out for them to color while I read the Bible story to them. I have been doing a search for some activities by using Sunday school lessons. Visiting non-Catholic Christian sites reminded me that they don't believe in infant baptism, so that could be a good discussion topic on that feast day with older children.

Jennifer & Mary, are you pre-planning your crafts and activities as well?
