Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Is there such a thing as a simplified CCC out there? My kids and even I are sometimes stumped as to what the writers of the CCC are trying to convey. We use it quite a bit for ancient history. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Would this help? If you click through a few links you will find a downloadable table of contents and other resources as well.

Patty's recommendation raises a question for me...

Why do these things say the "United States" CCC? Isn't the CCC the same for all Roman Cathlics? I always get nervous when I read "the "United States"... as though it's not quite the whole truth or a tailored truth if it's being spun or what or something...

I have no idea if this is a valid issue or not, but I am curious. Why the "United States"...???

I asked this same question of a DRE friend of mine. I'm not sure his answer is entirely accurate, and I would like to ask someone a bit more 'in the know' first, but it seems feasible: this particular catechism was written, based on the CCC, specifically for Americans. Yes, we are Catholic all over the world, but each country faces its own particular sets of issues/concerns/societal matters.

FWIW....

:)

yeah.... I get that each culture is different, but I fail to understand the difference in the CCC for the United States. And it doesn't hurt to note that many problems in the USofA are from a lack of unity with Rome so to speak, imho.

My thoughts exactly, actually. I'm hoping someone else can come up with a better explanation. :)

On another note, it would be nice to have an actual CCC written in 'simpler' language, with a similar set-up, for the sake of younger children delving into it.

Well, the Baltimore catechism is a U.S. catechism, right? Catechisms are encouraged to be made locally, I believe. Though the U.S. Bishops get a lot of flack, many things they write are fairly good. Their pamphlet on Married Love is a recent example of good stuff from our Bishops.
