Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I feel so helpless ... this is my SON who is receiving communion this year, but I can't for the life of me find something meaningful enough for him. This particular son had three others before him who received their FHCs and we have pretty much every amazing picture book out there (I'm thinking of, for example, The Weight of a Mass and The Errant Knight). I don't care for the little St. Joseph Missals (besides which, we have several lurking around here). He's not respectful enough of rosaries to get him a good one. His brother already bought him a crucifix. Any ideas?

TIA!

This statue was our gift to our son. It was something he specifically requested. I liked that it was non-breakable!

We gave our daughter a nice Bible for FHC--a real one, not a children's or picture. She told us that was her favorite present.

I gave mine a nice children's bible.. between reading level and the fact that we didn't really have any.. I figured a transitional Bible something between Bible stories and an adult Bible was good.. which I like.. because books still get a bit of hard use at this age.. and I'll be able to get them a nice adult Bible at Confirmation (they do confirmation here once every 2 yrs in 6th and 7th grade.. which grade just depends on the 2 yr cycle)

I *do* believe I've found that elusive FHC gift. For months I've been searching for something unique. This reference goes on into the Apostolic Age and beyond (it even touches on the Reformation from a Catholic perspective) at the level of a 7-10 yo. I'm so excited.
