Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Since Summer is on its way out and we are switching seasons, let's do Vivaldi's four seasons and any other Vivaldi CD's you want to add. The four seasons are great.

Vivaldi's a favorite here, Sarah! We have 3 different recordings of the Four Seasons. Our favorite is The English Concert's with Trevor Pinnock and Simon Standage on violin. A close second is from The Academy of Ancient Music.

I found this activity sheet (pdf file) at classicsforkids.com.

I wanted to share about a DVD that I found at the library. It's Baby Einstein: Baby Monet the 4 seasons. The DVD focuses on the 4 seasons and plays Vivaldi's the 4 seasons throughout the video. There are Monet paintings interspersed throughout the videos with the puppet skits and pictures. My toddler wasn't too interested in it but the 8 year old loved it. He said the music was really good and watched the DVD twice. The second time he watched it he played the French version and was repeating all the season names in French. I'm not sure what the age range is on this DVD but I think it would appeal to preschoolers on up. Some toddlers would probably really enjoy it too. Mine is too busy to pay much attention to the TV.

Today we played 'Name that Season'

I cued up the beginnings of each movement and Marianna named each as soon as she could identify it. Simple, yes. But we had fun!

If you don't have a CD yourself, just scroll to the bottom of Wikipedia (under Media) and click away.

Love that idea, Jennifer! My favorite is Autumn Mvt 3, Allegro. I just imagine everyone outside with big piles of leaves, dancing around and tossing the leaves up in the air!

Don't forget the Classical Kids audio cd, "Vivaldi and the Ring of Mystery" (I *think* that's the name...). We love this cd and have listened to it many, many times!

Here's a quiz I did up for Vivaldi in conjunction with the Classical Kids tapes (Vivaldi & the Ring of Mystery)...another idea we loved was to research and make different carnival masks that would have been worn in Venice at the time....

Name:         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         .            Date:         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp;         & nbsp; .

Quiz on Antonio Vivaldi

        ____________________.

3.      What instrument was he best at?
        ________________________.

4.     Where did he work for the majority of his life?
        ___________________________.

5.     His most famous work is the "Four
        _____________________."

True or False:
6.     _______   &nb sp; Vivaldi was a priest with red hair.

7.     _______   &nb sp; Vivaldi lived during the Baroque period.

8.     _______   &nb sp; Vivaldi's music has been famous since
                  he wrote it.

9.     _______   &nb sp; Vivaldi died a rich man.

10.     _______   &n bsp; A concerto is a piece of music written
for orchestra and a solo instrument.

Extra Credit: (10 extra points):
Write a paragraph about what you learned about the city where Vivaldi lived.

Hugs,
Laurel in PA
