Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some feedback on what other moms would want in an art appreciation class for first-graders in a Catholic homeschool co-op that meets once a week. I'm afraid my enthusiasm for learning about and creating art has led me to open my big mouth and volunteer to teach ds6's class. Unfortunately, art is all new to me (I was strictly a music girl growing up...no time in the schedule for art classes ).

So...I have 40 minutes to teach and I was thinking 10 minutes of artist/art appreciation CM-style followed by 20 minutes of creative art in the style of the artist we're studying, leaving 5 minutes for set-up and clean-up. Is this realistic? If you had your child in an art apprec. class, would you expect an art project every week? (Oh, did I mention that the co-op is free except for class materials costs?)

I was thinking we wouldn't get more than 3 or 4 artists done in a semester, maybe 1 artist in a month (4 classes)?

Should I choose the artists/mediums to be studied according to my fancy or run a few by the moms involved?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!
