Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello,

My 12 yo dd has been asked to lead an art class for preschoolers: for a 2, 3 (x2), 4, 5yos.......

she is very creative.....and we have books....and familyfun.com

but, I was wondering what are your favorite art projects for these ages?

I have that resource you mentioned, Faith......wondering where the heck I put it! I always love tying literature into everything!

Thanks!

Oh, those years seem so long ago now.

How fun for your daughter though!!!

What about making a rainbow with little squares of cut up paper? She could already have the little mosaics cut out, and they could put paste on one section of the rainbow (you could find or make a rainbow pattern) and then they could put the colors down for each section.

OR....they could paint the rainbow with pain dabbers (they sell them..they're like bingo markers with washable paint in them).

I'll keep thinking............

What about crayon resist painting?

The littles can scribble their masterpieces and then Sarah could help them stroke watered down tempra over their crayon work?

Just a quick thought that came to my sleep-deprived mind!

Love,

- origami -- help them make simple figures, leave as is, or make into a collage, or glue on to make part of a painting

- negative/positive art: cut colored paper into squares. let them cut each square any way they want it, then paste the positive image (the pieces that they cut) on one side of the paper, and the negative image (the paper they cut the pieces out of) onto the other side of the paper.

- sculpey! (for at least 3 and above and make sure they're not putting it into their mouths) -- also, edible play dough and jello playdough

- fingerpainting has always been a favorite here for this age.

- cookie-decorating

- foamie collages

- whipped cream or shaving cream art -- dd can't forget the time at her preschool when they were allowed to use shaving cream just anyway they wanted to -- they had several cans and all of them decided they just wanted to make one huge mountain. it looked like snow had fallen and this was in july (summer camp).

- necklace-making -- just make sure the littles use large beads.

- breadmaking is an art, isn't it? at age 2 and 3 my kids have lots of fun kneading dough with me, esp. if they get to fold in fun stuff like chocolate chips or raisins, then they make their own "rolls", and eat them after they bake!

hth,
