Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Based on another thread, I was looking at the Nine Note Recorder method and I think this would be a fun addition to our learning this year.

Penny Gardner has suggestions for the type of recorder, but I'm wondering if anyone here has any suggestions, favorites, things to look for, or avoid, in choosing a recorder. I don't want to spend very much money, but I'd like to get something decent.

Thanks!

We have several Aulos Soprano Recorders and a couple other cheapie ones for the smaller kids.

I think our Alto Recorder is Aulos too.

You want one that comes apart (2 or 3 part), for cleaning reasons.

We use Aulos Recorders as well. It's a great recorder and doesn't break the bank. Easy to clean.

We have the Soprano Recorder and the Alto Recorder. They sound lovely together, especially if you play from any of Penny's duet books.

We keep a couple of Melissa and Doug Recorders for little ones.

My favorite recorder is either the Mollenhauer Student or Moeck. I prefer pearwood and the Mollenhauer one, but that is a personal choice. You also have to decide between baroque and German fingering. German is easier, but somewhat limited in certain notes you can play. I had 8 years of formal recorder lessons before switching to flute lessons. My children use the Mollenhauer recorder, my son actually uses my uncle's (his recorder is now over 50 years old and is still playing well). There are several places in the U.S. that sell these. Just do a google search.

I would never buy a plastic recorder. A child can be trained to take care of a wooden recorder very well, even at an early age, say 6 or 7.
