Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This is simply a "yay I had a little success" post :).

Aside from listening to music casually (both classical music and fun "kid" music like Wee Sign and MMPT), I have wanted to incorporate a little something more with music. I bought MMPT and thought it would be so fun, but my kids have strongly resisted a structured "music time". They wander off, don't participate, and look at me like I'm weird. They do love the music though, so we've enjoyed learning the songs in a casual way, so that is ok.

I also have Story of the Orchestra, which I think is so neat, but my kids haven't been all that interested. They like the music, but they don't really pay attention if I read a page.

This morning, we tried "Can You Hear It" and they really enjoyed it! We listened to Flight of the Bumblebee and they had a lot of fun running around pretending to be bees and acting out the song. They liked exploring the print that was in the book as well. They even asked to listen to the next one, so we "skated" around the room as we listened to The Four Seasons: Winter.

I'm just happy I found something the kids can get into! My five year old is particularly resistant to any group activities, unless they are his idea, and after his protests of "I don't want to!" he was the most enthusiastic little bee of all.

Yay for small successes!

My young children really enjoy that book as well A particular favorite has been Comic Duet for Two Cats.   I must admit I like the fact that it combines art and music (just as a personal favorite of mine _Splendors of the Magnificat_ which looks at Marian art and the musical settings of the Magnificat through the centuries)

I've found that The Story of the Orchestra has been interesting for my children over the age of ten but not so much the younger ones.   It's been a good book for independent listening/reading.

My son loves both of these resources. But I have to say, I canNOT stand that cat song more than about once a month if that.
