Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

This was the first and ONLY book my son picked when we started homeschooling almost 2 yrs ago. He was just 9 but they appealed to his desire to draw and helped him create pictures he couldn't otherwise. I do like the handwriting aspect that goes along with it as well b/c he desperately still needs it. I'm wondering what is beyond these now that he's almost 11 and heading into 5th grade. He (and I) still like the easy format but I'm wondering if there is anything like it that's not quite so early elementary? Also, I would like something even with cursive although practicing his manuscript writing is still worthwhile too. I could always print out my own but that's just one extra step for me which is why I like the "all in one" concept of these.

Thanks,

I'm not sure it's exactly what you are looking for Kathryn, but we like History Scribe products. They are designed so that the child writes his own entry, but you could also use it for copying what is already written on the page.

Kathryn,

Have you seen "Draw and Write Through History"? The artwork is more challenging and realistic and the handwriting is cursive. We use it for the drawing lesson. My 11 yo would draw while I would read a history lesson. The cursive handwriting practice is longer than the printing lesson in Draw, Write, Now. It is a lesson from history. I have to be honest in that I haven't paid much attention to what the cursive lesson says because he just likes to draw. We use CHC's handwriting for cursive.

The only one I've used is Pilgrims, Pirates, and Patriots. There are Christopher Columbus's ship; kangaroos, koala, and coral reef for Australian history; Squanto, a windmill, and pilgrim children; a pirate; Paul Revere on a horse; a Revolutionary War soldier; a cannon; and George Washington kneeling next to his horse. My 11 year old enjoyed it very much as it allowed him to draw more realistically in a step-by-step manner.

Hope this helps! We bought ours from Amazon.
