Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Be still my heart! I found the sweetest book at a vintage resale shop yesterday. It is called, “Doll Houses” by Karin Kelly. Pictures by George Overlie. This is from a series called, “The Lerner Early Craft Series”, back in the ’70’s. There are at least 24 titles to this series. They are written to children, and are explaining different craft skills in easy to understand language, at least from what I can tell in the one I bought and looked over.

This is from the back cover about the series:

All crafts are old, some are ancient; some seem new because of the timely ways in which they are used. By introducing young people to the crafts of their forebears, the Early Craft Books offer methods of confronting and solving basic problems they often find in daily life.

Some of the titles included are:
Applique
Aquariums ( I said it was a ’70’s series )
Carpentry
Flower Pressing
Indoor Gardening
Leathercraft
Making Musical Instruments
Nature Crafts
Print Making
Sandcasting
Simple Sewing
Weaving

In my library system, four books were available from the same author in the series, Karin Kelly.....I am putting a hold on:
Weaving
Soup’s On
Carpentry
They also have the Doll Houses book I just bought. I am excited, these look like sweet, easy to do craft books for, I would guess, any elementary age kiddos.   I am wondering if some of the other titles might be from different authors.

Has anyone else seen this series?

ETA: I did some sleuthing on my library site....and found a lot more titles from the ’70’s under “An Early Craft Book” series. There are several more titles like, “Making Fishing Tackle”. I am interested in these books, because the language is so straightforward, simple but helpful illustrations. I’ll report back if they are duds.

I don't know. I'd like to see the covers to see if I recognize them. Now you've got me curious. They sound great! Thanks for sharing ...off to the library reserve site...

Sounds fascinating, I love the sharing here, I then know what to keep a look out for at sales
