styrofoam peanuts just get wet.. the ones made of rice get slimey.. but those are fun to just get an edge damp and stick them together to build things.

Yes, we just got some in last week but I've only played around with it for a few minutes. It's strange. We've had moon sand and I ordered Delta sand. Both have a familiar quality with the Delta sand being easier to mold, but the bubber...I don't know. You know the concoction made with cornstarch and water that acts like a solid and then softens and dribbles away? Bubber reminds me of that. When you first pick up a small handful it feels soft and light like cotton candy, but then the whisps around the edges look as though they will melt, but they don't. They just go limp. If you form it into a ball, it holds the shape almost as well as Delta sand, but with a flick of the finger it will separate. It's fun, but I don't know if I would hand it to a 4 or 5 year old. My 8 year old likes to work with it and I imagine she would have at 6 or 7 too. For learning projects I prefer the Delta Sand. I don't see the bubber as being something that could easily be used to make models. PM me if you have any specific questions.

Amy, I think your son would like to hold and shape this but it wouldn't work for artistic expression. I don't see how it could be carved or used to create detail. The images of the house and boat are about as detailed as a person could get with the compound. The Delta sand would be ideal for artistic expression, but if sand gives him the willies it's not the way to go either.
