I borrowed The Story of Classical Music from our local library recently.
It is fantastic... DS was obsessed with it, and continues even now to tell everyone all about Paganini!
The other day, he decided he was going to write a symphony... directly influenced by the CD .
Just thought I'd share!

Ah! Read by Marin Alsop, the first woman conductor a major symphony orchestra (Baltimore). Great listen, eh?

Rachel -- thanks for mentioning this. I'd seen a review of it in the Sunday paper back in Sep/Oct and I'd forgotten that I wanted to order it...I've placed t in my amazon cart (which NEVER seems empty) to buy after Christmas....
Glad to hear you thought it great.

It was good listening, yes! The only gripe I had with it, was that the music clips were too short... but the stories were good, maybe even fascinating... and not too lurid considering some of the lives of the famous composers out there.
My favourite was the biography of Saint-Saens... who could read by the age of two, and was composing not much later...
Enjoy listening!
(Macbeth, I hope you have it on your opinions page )

I've finally learned to open the library search page when I'm on this forum. This was was there! Very exciting since NONE of the Christmas book recommendations were.

Have any of you listened to the "History of Theatre" and "History of Opera" sets? They sound interesting, possibly a good spine for a highschool elective on those topics..?
