Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Delicate things call for a delicate job, right?
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Yes, bring on the suggestions. Hannah's shoes were 'inspected' by her teacher last week (as were all the shoes-yes, I had to ask!) and the girls were told either they needed to be cleaned up or new ones bought for the recital.

Funny, every year the slippers wear out right at recital time and I am always afraid her feet will have a growth spurt by the fall

Hannah's slippers are pink...

As are Chelsea's and Annie's and it's for the same reason...recital looms before us.

I just had to mention, yesterday I had to buy Chels a new pair of tan shoes for her lyrical dance. She's been wearing Kayleigh's old pair which were tan at one time but had to be dyed black for one of her recital dances. We can't redye the black to tan. Between that and the costumes, new ballet shoes really need to wait until the new dance year starts.

We all know what dance shoes cost.

First, scrub leather gently with soft toothbrush and a small amount of liquid ballet soap, then wipe loosened dirt with a damp cloth. Buff out any remaining scuff marks with saddle soap or leather cleaner. Put them on the ballerinas feet to dry and they will fit perfectly afterwards. Last, sprinkle baking soda in the insides and let them air out for 24 hours. That's this aging ballerina's best advice !

Way back when I was dancing, we always washed the outside with mild soap and water, then sprinkled foot powder or spray inside. Alternately, you could stuff a sachet in each. If they are pink leather shoes, you can get rid of scuff marks with liquid foundation. ;-) Back ones can be tidied up with liquid shoe polish, after washing.

I wish that my girls danced, but alas - there is not much interest.

Blessings,

Just saw this thread and was getting ready to type up the question -- good thing you clarified, Colleen!!

Us too -- recital time. I'm hoping not to have to buy new shoes as she probably won't be doing ballet next year since we have to leave... thanks for the cleaning instructions!!

Not at all, Colleen.
My mind was stuck on the revelation that a mother of five boys was able to waltz her way through cleaning instructions to a mother of three daughters (all who have danced) who knew none of this.

And you danced it so beautifully too.

My poor dd pointed out this week that the holes in the toes of her ballet shoes were getting ridiculous and could she please have some new ones. I'm afraid they are way beyond cleaning . At least her budget-breaking pointe shoes are still in one piece.

I'm glad of the information for future use

I was also wondering about the ballet soap (I try to steer clear of the dance store- my daughter took up Irish and the prices scare me!!)

Thank you for the great instructions!!
