I wanted to share this resource that the piano teacher brought us last week.

Lewis and Clark: A Musical Expedition by Tom Gerou

This is an intermediate piano book which has a few paragraphs of summary of Lewis and Clark's expedition, a musical map for decoding the music, interprative notes for the music, some drawings, and a brief excerpt from Lewis' and Clark's journals on 2 pages. The next 2 pages are a piano piece in the theme of that part of the expedition, like "Attack of the White Grizzly" or "Song of Sacagawea."

My 3rd grade boys read through it easily. The piano will be a little more challenging for them, but it's doable. They play about level 2 or 3 in Faber and Faber.

I was skeptical at first. All I could think of was Waiting for Guffman, but it really is good and not silly.
