I have recently been checking out a variety of art appreciation books for children from the Metropolitan Museum of Art series. The most recent find is Can You Hear It?. A very clever approach to art appreciation. It contains copies of 13 paintings and recommendation for a piece of music that goes with it conceptually. It includes a CD that contains the musical selections so you can listen to the piece while studying the painting. There are questions that lead you to listen for specific parts of the music and explains how different instruments are used to create an image in sound. This is a great book for both art and music study.

It got me thinking of ways to combine these studies in general. What have you done to mix music and art study? Any ideas or thoughts to share?
