Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone seen this book yet? It's a newly published book and I can't find it on either Amazon or Borders (where the gift-giver bought it).

In the midst of my getting rid of stuff and organizing down to every single corn-kernel in my house (long story about the kernels), a friend from church stops by to give us a thank you gift - this art book.

It looks really neat, with tabbed sections labelled drawing/sketching/cartooning, painting and printing, world art and painting/sculpture/special effects. (sculpture is spelled wrong on the tab)   It's hardcover, spiral bound and lays perfectly flat. The pages are that slightly thicker shiny material, with bright clear non-cluttered pictures (I love anything non-cluttered!), with what seems to be simply laid out steps for trying various art-forms. It doesn't seem to be a craft book persay (with specific 'make this exact item exactly this way' mentality), but seems to be more of an overall idea/method/form book. Each activity is on two pages, so laid open, the book displays the entire activity and only that one activity.

The beginning of each section lists all the materials needed for that section. It starts with the color wheel, mixing colors, and paint effects then moves into more of the activities.

One example: Indonesian Batik (a bit more involved) - these 2 pages show 5 steps to making a flag using a piece of cloth, white wax crayon, dye (it says to have an adult help), and a dowel rod or stick. The children choose their own design, color, etc.

One other example, a bit more simple: Roman-style mosaic. This uses graph paper (plan the design on this), colored paper or old magazines or gummed colored paper, black construction paper, scissors and white glue. It seems basic enough, but sometimes it's so nice to have it all organized for me already!

We've not yet tried anything from it. I've been through so many craft books and I just feel burned through by them - just a bunch of junk in the end and the kids not really getting into it. This one has weaving, but not crochet, knitting, leather, wood, or sewing, but we have other guides for those.

The Great Big Art Activity Book
Is this the book? The author Sue Nicholson has some books listed on Amazon.
I found this link and it says it is not published yet. I am interested to know how you like it

It looks the same (same author, publisher, title, description), except the last 4 digits of the ISBN - perhaps this one corrects the two spelling errors I found?

Thus far, my son has looked through it and seems to want to do some things. Perhaps after morning snack, we'll something from it to see how it goes.

I might just go through this book myself for the fun of it.
