Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My kids would really like to learn Spanish next year. I have been looking at Learn Spanish with Grace and Rosetta Stone Spanish 1. I will be working with all of the kids(okay, most of the kids). The ages of the kids most involved will be 6,7,9, and 10. Does anyone know which program is the most user freindly? IS there another program that is better than any one of these?

Thank you.

Okay, I would like to add to this thread. My son wants to learn French. We have the Rosetta Stone Europac and he has already completed the 22 lessons offered. Rosetta Stone is what they use in the Peace Corps and is highly recommended. However, it is all at the computer.

My ds wants something more like Latina Christiana with a workbook (in English--he did not like the college French book that I provided him with). Some of our friends have used PowerGlide, and I have heard good things about that as well although we have never used it. Does it have written materials?

I have also heard good things about Learn Spanish with Grace, but I have no experience with it either.

Perhaps I am no help at all!

Okay, here's my 2 cents.

I'm currently tutoring Elizabeth's oldest using Rosetta Stone Spanish. It does a nice job of repetition to learn nouns and verbs, but on the other hand, it repeats itself a lot.

Being a Spanish teacher in a former life, I just don't feel like it provides a good enough education in a language to be able to move on to the college level. Now, Jen, I know your children are a ways away from college, but the program just doesn't do a really good job of covering different "persons" in the verb arena. The focus is primarily on talking about people - 3rd person singular and plural, but hardly even touches on 1st person singular/plural or 2nd person.

Mary Chris lent me her Spanish with Grace but I haven't reviewed it yet to give a response on it yet. I have purchased something called Flip Flop Spanish to use with Elizabeth's younger children.

Thanks Cindy. I will check that out. It sounds familiar for some reason.

I am using Learn Spanish With Grace with my 11 and 13 year old kids. It is working out very well! They have learned a lot just listening to the songs. The basic book comes with 3 CDs, but I recommend getting the additional music book and cd. (In fact, we bought the whole program.) We listen to it in the car. I would not hesitate to use it with younger students! (This is not a high school course, but it is terrific for teaching basic everyday words, expressions and prayers.) We also use See It & Say It In Spanish along with it. For us, both books really complement each other. In fact, after using this program I would recommend another book by the See It and Say It author called Madrigal's Magic Key to Spanish. It really hepled me when I was taking college Spanish and I think it would be great for a high schooler!

Thank you Marie! I did purchase the initial workbook with cds so I could see it. My kids were so excited, they started reading through it. I really liked everything, too. I've ordered other parts of the program, but I can't remember if the music book and cd wre what I ordered. If not, I'll get them.    I'll have to check out See It & Say it.

We have been using Spanish Now, a workbook with a few CD's, to learn Spanish this year (13 yo ds). It's going pretty well for both of us, since we have done Latin previously (makes those conjugations and even a lot of the vocab easier)

We've only gotten through about 1/3 of the book but I'm able to read it, write it and somewhat speak it. But when I overhear people in the community speaking Spanish, it is so fast I can't even begin to understand it!
has anyone used these CD's?

I've used some of their online free stuff but wonder about how the CD's are. It would be nice to have something to have in the car, etc. to help us with pronunciation and fluency.

I read the post about the concerns with Rosetta Stone not preparing one for college level Spanish. What would you think about using Rosetta Stone at an upper elementary/junior high level and then for high school moving into a more traditional course of study like Seton offers to better prepare for the college level study? would this work.

I also took a look at the flip flop Spanish and loved the looks of it. I am going to get it for my younger children. It seems like so much fun!
