Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I came across this at the library yesterday on the stuff they get rid of for donation...along with other things... but I was wondering if anyone has seen/used this magazine? It appears to be from a London publisher. I have not had a chance to read it yet but just thought I would check if anyone has? Is there anything about this source that I should know??

It is a mainstream popular history magazine from the UK (popular as in written for the general public, as opposed to for an academic audience). Newsagents and book stores here will normally stock two history magazines - History Today and BBC History. The contributors are reputable historians, and it doesn't - so far as I'm aware - have any particular agenda.

You can get the flavour of it from the History Today website. It modestly describes itself as "the world's leading history magazine" . Some articles are also available free online, though most just give you a tantalising first paragraph or two and you have to pay for the rest. This article on The Vatican and the Atlantic Slave Trade looks interesting.
