Mystery Class #2 is 10:54 photoperiod for last Monday.
One tip that we did last year was set up an Excel spreadsheet and plot the data on the computer -- this was a little easier than trying to use the chart that they have on their site. And with the little ones, it was a little easier on me, too !

Mystery class #7 photoperiod for Jan. 29 was
11h. 16m.
We'd say not quite at the equator.
MIchael and Christopher really wanted to add the smileys to our data.

First, set up a chart like the one from the Journey North site -- Dates in a column going down, mystery classes across the columns (I put Denver in the 11 cell). Then when you fill in the data, make sure you put the minutes of photoperiod as a percent of 60 (or conversely, change your time into all minutes -- thus, 12 hrs 5 min would either be 12.08 or 725 minutes). I added a reference table in the lower corner with minutes then (minutes/60) to get the decimals.
Set up a line chart by clicking on the charting icon. Have you X-axis be the mystery classes (or just your class and all the other participant's actual location data points) + your town (as a reference). Y-axis is the photoperiod in hours or minutes. Place the chart into the sheet your working with so that as you add data, your kids can see the chart update.
You can play with the y-axis data points so that it just has 0 to 24 (as you'll never have more than 24 hours of light, right).
If anyone wants my data file, just pm and I'll send it. It's Excel 2003 if that matters....

Another clue ... our photoperiod was longer than any of the mystery classes (though not by much). We are at latitude 52deg north, so presumably all the mystery classes must be south of that.

Sorry, I subtracted class 7 sunrise from class 6 sunset. That's what I get for doing it with a baby on my lap while my five year old runs around the floor.
Wow! That's a lotta sunlight!
My sons will be so excited!

Yes, Jennifer, you are right on target with your calculations.
I'm going to move this message to a new thread so we can keep all the the data from this week separate from last week's data. It's easier to track that way. Post this week's data here.
