All right, gang, time to start our engines! Tomorrow will be the first day of the project. Everybody should calculate your local photoperiod using your sunrise and sunset times.
That's all for tomorrow...a nice simple start. Feel free to share your local photoperiods here. It's fun to compare the length of our days. I can't wait to compare ours to last year, now that we're so much farther south!

From Ponca City, OK
sunrise: 7:33 am
sunset: 5:50 pm
photoperiod: 10 hours and 17 minutes
Notice the difference in times. Courtney, you are about 4 1/2 to 5 hours almost due south of me. And Mary, you are west and north (about an 9 hour drive). Cool to compare. I am excited.

Photoperiod of 10 hrs 33 min here in San Diego County, latitude N32.8! (Versus 10 hrs 12 min in our old hometown. Wow!)
I wonder who'll have the longest photoperiod today...Jennifer in Florida, maybe? And who is farthest north?

sunrise 7:19
sunset 5:24
photoperiod 10hours and 5minutes
So far if your comparing:
Michelle at Timber Oregon has the least with 9h and 37m
Lissa at San Diego CA has the most with 10h and 33m
(Sorry Courtney lost by a minute)
Who will beat those times?

Well, since there are 3 of us in Denver doing this I won't bore anyone with posting our photoperiod calculations again.
And I'm so glad Kathryn posted this with her latitude.

Even though we know if someone is further north or south it is interesting to see how much. In fact I hadn't realized that England was that much further north than us.
If we see a few different examples of the difference in latitude then our children can start to make some general sense of how much the photoperiod changes with a degree of latitude.
So, for those so inclined if you go back to your posts and add your latitude for reference that would be a nice addition.
The latitude for Denver is 39 degrees, 45 minutes North

Ooooh, this is so interesting. KC is just a little south of us and it's a 6 minute difference. Wow, first day and I'm already a little obsessed.
