Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Well, I couldn't find what I really wanted to do.. so I made it.. used several online resources.. got a Catholic time line.. and combined them so that we have 4 levels of reading that follow a time line.. and pick and choose from that to do history through literature.

I personally decided against anything that was not Catholic because I don't know Church history well enough to catch everything that might be slanted against the Church.

Jodie
Where did you decide to start, what period?

Are you planning on following systematically or do what you fancy? I tend to the later, we've never done history chronologically.

History through literature is a wonderful way to go.

at the moment we're working through the list chronologically.. but we don't hold to it for other things.. we often discuss various time periods.. just recently we talked about why black people were treated as they were back in the 1950's or so.. it was neat we were able to tie what they knew from ancient egypt (joesph, moses) into it so that they had a reference point. And for fun we're reading Eight Cousins by Louisa May Alcott. Partly we're going chronologically because I started with creation and I'm still working on the later half of the list and also we have to buy most of it so that also needs some order to it just so I can keep track

So even though we work through it chronologically.. we intersperse it with other stuff that may not make that list or that comes up otherwise.. but then we go back to the list for the next thing when we hit the end of the last thing.

I plan to get the time line up on the wall.. I want it all up at once.. we're putting it on the bottom half of the wall in the hallway.. then covering it with plexiglas.. which will let us have it at the kids level for looking up things and we can also write on it with grease pencils and the like.. but keep the actual line safe from the littles.

mommylorri,

About how old are your kids? Maybe we could offer more input if we knew, in general, what age group you're looking at.

History can be done chronologically, or not, depending on your style and preference.
