Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My brain is in a fog today and I can't seem to figure out what to do next in history. My 10 yo ds has finished reading The Story of the World Volume 1. He loved this book! So much that we wouldn't read any other books I tried to assign to go with it and read through it much faster than expected. He has requested the next book in the series. I'm not sure I want him to read it.

Next year I plan to follow MA history suggestion for level 3 and we would just pick it up where we have just finished in SOTW 1. I don't think I want to start the level 3 history now because I don't think he is ready for the O'Neill book and it really just isn't the same writing style of Bauer's book. I think he would think it was boring in comparison. He has made it clear he like the writing style of his current book and the main reason he wants to continue with that series.

So, we have a whole third of the school year left and I'm not sure what to do in history. We could fill the space with geography since we are lacking in that area. Or even do more science. Or we could move to SOTW 2.

His narrations were awesome and I feel like he was really making connections with history. I would love for that to continue

Oh, one thing that worries me about SOTW would be any anti-Catholic themes. I don't have the book so I haven't read it but I have something I downloaded from another post of what chapters to look out for. Ds has been reading independently and I would like to continue that but I'm not sure how to handle things that needs to be discussed or skipped. How do you handle that in independent reading?

Now might be a good time for a more focused study about history. It could be anything really. But maybe there was something he was particularly interested in and now's the time to pick up books related to that.. or any other time period he might be especially interested in.

Geography might be nice too. Especially if you look at some of the historical information. (not just where the states are but when each entered the union and why etc)

I was just having a conversation with ds and trying to explain my dilemma and seeing if he had any input and . . . well . . . All I got was why do we have to read those other books (the ones listed in level 3 of MA)? Can't I just continue with the SOTW series?
