Has anyone used or have experience with the set of World history books currently being written by Susan Wise Bauer? These are for an older audience than her Story of the World Series and I notice she has three books completed so far. The one I am looking at is her Ancient history volume: The History of the Ancient World followed by the others if that one plays well.
considering it as a middle school into high school series.
Thoughts?
Edited to add this would be for a child with learning difficulties as a read-aloud.

Would not consider it as a middle school read. My daughter and I read sections together in highschool, and my son read portions as well. It is very meaty with the all over the world Story of the World feeling. We followed it in more of a chronological way only covering Greece and Rome. There are primary source readings in it as well as topics that are not kid friendly (welcome to the ancients!). I would put it at a highschool/adult level (even as a read aloud).
Edit: Not that it is meaty, like Herodotus etc., but her style is more adult in this book and it moves at a pretty good clip!

I pulled out sections of it to read to my older kids when they were middle schoolish... I'm trying to remember how old my oldest was... twelve, maybe? Anyway, I only pulled out sections to read, I didn't read them the whole thing. But she had information on places like India (Mohenjo-Daro, etc.) that I really couldn't find in a good readable form anywhere else. A little later I think my oldest read most of the book for himself, which is why we're not using it for high school ancient history.
If your dd is used to listening to more complicated books, then you might be able to pull chapters from it. My 10 yo son with learning difficulties would probably be able to listen to me read parts of it because he's listened on audio to so many long, complicated books, but he definitely would not be able to read it himself.
If I recall, since it's geared toward adults, there are a few little adultish mentions here and there, but they can be edited if you're reading aloud.

Hey Theresa, I used this with Violet for her great books studies she did last year and the year before. I would definitely rate this a more highschool/mature history book, something I know you would really like but might be too detailed and heavy for Jbug. It can be a bit dry too, just mho.

Theresa, did you end up using/reading this? I am in need of something for my oldest who loves history and has devoured Christ the King Lord of History. We've done SOTW and she loved those as well, but I will not be reading aloud to her, so I am a bit concerned about the content. Anything problematic? Thanks!

Sure Lindsay - I didn't know if anyone had been updated here, it's been a while since I've been on. She needs lots of prayers, thank you.
