Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm not sure whether I should be posting here or in high school?!

I'm curious about the foreign language classes that Seton has, do they also offer a recorded lecture? Or are they just going by the syllabus and reading the text?

I don't think I want to sign up for the full Seton package as my boys are doing really well with the Abeka online Math courses and I don't think Seton will accept those.

So I'm thinking about doing just a single course for the foreign language, but I'm only interested if it has a lecture component with it as well.

I feel like I used a lot of words for a short question... Thankfully, it is Friday!!!!!

We are doing the French course with them. My children have had French before, so it's not so overwhelming. It is quite time intensive, though. There is a daily lesson plan, each lesson takes about an hour to complete. There is written work, a CD that goes with the text book, and audio lectures online. I have my children make a vocabulary booklet for all the new words. The language support you get is not very good. I have contacted them several times and never heard back. I also discovered a mistake on the first quarterly exam and pointed it out to them. They have fixed it since then.

I do like the course, but I know some basic French myself and can help my children. We are also friends with a college professor and native speaker, who helps us if we have questions. For parents without any background in French the course can be too much, but for us it works quite well.

I am thinking of using the Seton Latin and Spanish next year for the twins. More for the lesson plans and structure thatn the support. Thanks for the info Eva.

Kacky - you can use your own Math with Seton. They use Saxon, so I believe you have to treat Math as an independent course and pay an extra $30/yr to have it on the Seton transcript. Or you can just submit your own transcript with it on. (on another note, it was great seeing you yesterday and talking with you- after so long!!)

Kacky,

What did you end up doing? I'm looking at foreign language for my DD next year. We were actually considering sign language but wondered if you went with Seton.

Thanks,
Kathryn

Nope. Turns our local homeschool group's academic classes offered by various teachers had a Spanish 1 class. So my boys did that.

Now we have since moved a bit away from those classes, it would take a little over an hour to get there. So for next year I bought the Tell Me More Spanish computer program.
