Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We are using LC 1 and I think dd needs something either a little more fun or at least a different angle. I am going to stick with LC but just want something else in there to give her a break.
TIA

I am glad you posted this Lora. We are struggling mightily with LC1. We've started it a couple years in a row and then give up. I think that whatever I use, I will be more involved the next time around. (I've let her watch the DVD's mostly and then work in the book...major frustrations sets in.) So...

Anyone used Schola Latina? Or what else would anyone suggest? I have a 12yodd, 10yodd, 8yodd and then 4 and 1 1/2. Something we could do as a family? At least the three olders?

I don't want to ditch the Latin at all, so I could use some advice!!

We used Our Roman Roots with our two boys when they were each in 6th grade. They both thought it was a fun introduction into Latin. Funny little story - 2 years ago when our oldest was in his 10th grade Latin II class there was a class sub for a little while one day. He started asking the kids different questions about Latin and asked the class if anyone knew Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. My son started singing
Mica, mica,
Parva stella.
Mirror quaenam.....
and proceeded to continue singing the entire little song to the class who were simply amazed that Stephen knew this. He remembered this from taking ORR 4 years previous.

We used Minimus as a break from Prima Latina. My dd loves it. The student book is reasonable price--wise. The TM, though, is extremely expensive. You can do the program without the TM but I think it really makes the learning of latin fun. In the TM there are worksheets, art, english, history and drama suggestions.

I found the TM used. That is the only reason we have it. Even then, it cost a pretty penny.

We used ORR for a year and, like Cheryl M., thought it was fun. There are apparently a few grammatical errors in his presentation, but his approach isn't really as much grammatical as making Latin fun and making students see Latin's everyday applications/connections. I call it "Latin Lite", but it sparked an interest in Latin for my dc so they could later enter a "real" Latin class without any angst, and some foundation.

I'll probably re-do it again next year with the littles.

We joined the yahoo group for Minimus and the creator of the teacher's manual gave permission for the groups members to share pdfs of the teacher manual - the hefty price is related to usage within a traditional school. My children have enjoyed Minimus but we are only on the 1st book right now.
