Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm thinking ahead a bit to next year (oh how I love to plan) and looking seriously at Connecting with History (beginning with Volume 1). My son will be in 2nd grade, so I know I don't need to be super formal or worried about covering everything. But I love history, so I do want to tackle it in a somewhat organized fashion next year.

My specific question is this - do you use everything on the recommended booklist?

It is hard to know without perusing the curriculum itself how it all plays out, and I'm still doing so much learning as I go as far as how to plan out a subject. I'd love any insight into how you use CWH and all the books on the booklists.

Thanks!

What I've done with CWH is buy the volume and core books early. (core = essential, basic = additional non-fiction BTW)

Then I check over the booklists unit by unit checking for
-books I might already own
-books that can be found in the library
and books where I can substitute something similar (for example I have a couple of very nice Noah's ark picture books if not the one recommended)

Any books left over are placed on my books-to-buy list with priority going to books with broader topics(particularly ones covering more then one unit, books covering topics missing in the core books and books that my children are most likely to enjoy.

Books on the to buy lists are then bought as my budget allows.

That's a great suggestion - thank you!
