While doing a little mini unit on Vivaldi as our April composer (couldn't resist "4 Seasons"), I found a great picture book.

Zoe Sophia's Scrapbook: An Advenutre in Venice is not only a great book about Venice and the things to see and do there, it's also a great starting point for a lapbook on Venice. The sotry is cute, the drawings are engaging.

My litles liked this one alot!

Another great picture book on Venice is called "Vendela in Venice". I want to say the author is Kristine Bjork, but I'm not sure. Full of information and great pictures.

Mary G, did you all listen to the Classical Kids cd about Vivaldi? The mystery that takes place in Venice? We've just about worn out that cd in our household!

Thanks for the lead on Zoe Sophia. It looks pretty cute.

Earlier this year, I made a few notes about Venice.We were reading Papa Picolo over and over (it might be called rowing, but I think it was more like doggy paddling/treading water.)

Vendela was interesting

We started He went with Marco Polo by Louise Kent, but didn't get too far with it. I printed out a chapter of Marco Polo's travels from the internet and read it.


I discovered Tintoretto is a Venetian artist:

I took out a few videos from the library. Our favorite:
Nova's Sinking City of Venice.

In a travel video I learned about:
Palladio (architect)

Palladio

whose style influenced the building of Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.

I'm still looking for the book Lissa recommended on architecture
Round Buildings, Square Buildings and buildings that wiggle like a fish.

I believe the relics of St. Mark and St. Titus are in Venice.

I didn't get too far in looking into the Churches. There is one church with a name like "The Miracle of the Madonna"
That's not the name. I wanted to look into it further but ... you know how it goes.

My older daughter thought the "Doges" who ruled Venice were interesting and the Four Horses of the Apocolypse ? on St. Mark's interesting.

I saw somewhere that St. Francis preached near the Lagunes of Venice. (These were just notes I kept!)
The nova video spoke of the natural habitat of the lagunes.

Glass making is an important Venetian industry.

I took notes hoping to return to some of these interesting topics.
Many years ago I took out a cute children's book about Venice from the library. I can't find it now even though I remember the library it came from. It was a black and white book of a mouse in Venice. Very intersting in describing the buildings with easy to remember pictures. I would love to find that book again.

We also read Sasek's This is Venice. I liked it. Kids so/so. This is Venice
