What are your favorite patriotic American movies?
Our family has decided to do a patriotic movie fest for the month of July. Every year we watch The Music Man which includes the 4th of July picnic scene. We're looking for old-fashioned waving of the red, white, and blue, and movies that capture times of greatness via any form or subject matter (musical, comedy, drama, sports, military, etc.) Brainstorming, we quickly came up with a few movies that we have already seen:
Casablanca
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
Miracle
To Kill a Mockingbird
Rocky
This week I'll be tooling around the internet for more ideas. I would love to hear your family favorites and if you can include approx. age range, that would be great!
Thanks!
Love,

I can't think of any specifically, but I sure do love the scene from Pollyanna when the local children were performing at the bazaar. Pollyanna sang "America the Beautiful".
I love that movie.

Um... I'm talking about older kids here, but "Independence Day" (you know, battling the aliens!) and "Air Force One." LOVE those movies! America the way I'd like to see her!

Independence Day has a scene with the exotic dance bar (I forget the level of nudity exactly).. so you might want to preview it even for older kids.

Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo - military/WWII - I think that, when I was growing up, we started watching this around Jr. High age. We loved this movie on our family - I haven't seen it in awhile, though.
Destination Tokyo - military/WWII - same as above...
Heaven Knows Mr. Allison - military/WWII - Jr. High
The Spirit of St. Louis - Chas. Lindbergh - family
The Stratton Story - baseball - family
The latter two aren't strictly patriotic, but great (imho) old movies set in America that we loved as kids and my parents have given to me to enjoy with our girls...as long as our VCR holds out. But I guess there's Netflix.
