Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

We did!

It is very cute. You get a small suitcase with a map inside and a passport you personalize for your child.
Every month they receive a package in the mail with a letter from "Sam and Sophia" that has a few basic facts about the country, a sticker (which we put on the suitcase), a sticker to mark the country on the map, and an artifact (e.g., for Brazil we received a small amethyst rock and for Japan a sushi shaped razor). There is also a code to access online information and activities.

This is a great introduction to world geography that would be easy to supplement with picture books. They give you a list of the countries you will be receiving in advance, so you could plan to be studying that country when the package is due to arrive. Or you could also use the package for a kick-off.

There is nothing in the program that you couldn't do at home for less money, but the aspect of receiving the package in the mail really raises the interest level.

Overall, a very nice supplemental fun program for ages 5-8 (although my 10 year old loves it, too! He's beyond it academically, but I just couldn't leave him out.)

Thanks so much, Caroline. This is really helpful. I was wondering if it was a hoaky type of thing or something the kids might really enjoy.

I do like the idea of the package coming in the mail- that would be very exciting for my gang.

I have been looking at CHC's tour a country and wondering if I could coordinate this program with it- or do little Passports in place of that. Then just add some picture books and call it geography for the year.

As always- time is a factor. Putting together kits on my own would take time and energy. I don't want to be tired before we even start

I definitely think you could use it as your geography. I don't have the list in front of me, but so far we have covered several continents. Focusing on one country a month would be fun, adding in a few picture books and map work would round out the program. You probably can even find some music from the country at your library.

You might want to add something like Maps, Globes, and Graphs workbooks just to cover basic information like cardinal and intermediate directions, longitude and latitude, determining distance on a map, reading specialty maps, etc. You could also cover these topics in the context of your Passport country.

Have you looked at The Ultimate Geography and Timeline book? It is a very good general resource that you could use over many years. I can't link it on my iPad very easily, sorry!

Doing a few notebook pages for your country would be quite similar to the CHC program. Trying to coordinate these two would probably work, but sometimes when I have tried to do this kind of coordinating
I have ended up feeling as if I didn't really do either program as well as I might have, iykwim?
I think just exploring the country in a little more depth would be great, and not too intense! You can't focus on every subject every year!

So well said, Caroline. Trying to do both probably would be too much, and then I would feel frustrated.

I have the Map Skills books on hand for next year, so that is covered.

As boxes are arriving for next year's school, my ds is complaining that everything the mailman brings is for me, and the kids never get anything. If he only knew...

Little Passports has reached the 25% off level, making the program under $100 for 12 months.   You can also sign up for 6 months.
Today is the last day.
