Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ok, God answered this little prayer of mine: I wanted to do a very light American History study along with American Geography, but could not see myself keeping up with the Middle Ages (we cannot stop with regular HIstory, as we are enjoying it to much and the children would miss it) AND adding America to the mix. SO, I said a prayer, and BAM! it hit me - a summer study!!!

I love this idea of taking a break and just focusing on this through the summer! So, now I am collecting book lists and movies so we can read like crazy and notebook a bit.

Am I crazy? Can we zip through a good chunk of this (my goal is overview and exposure - not intensive) and has anyone done this? Ideas?

Can I just say how much I love HSing?!

How is it going? I always plan something over the summer, then life happens and we end up not doing it till fall!   Hope it is going well for you!

I think it sounds great.

Summer is a great time for supplemental studies!

I was bothered by the fact that we were so behind in our history book until this week. It's "How our Nation Began" which we love, but we've taken a lot of side trails that set us back. Anyway, it just occurred to me that we will get to the end, the climax of the book right around July 4th-- the American Revolution.

Now I'm super excited to be right on time with current events.

(Our summer supplements will be memorizing the Times Tables and doing Latin flash cards along with working on my son's religious emblem program for Cub Scouts... then we'll get all hot and heavy with "regular" studies in mid August... just 2 weeks before baby #5 is due!)

Ha ha - not started yet!    We will start the week after next. I have a good collection of books to check out, got the Wee Sing America CD, and will do read aloud from A Short History of the United States by Edward Channing (free on my Nook ereader). Also, I want to watch Colonial House (awesome PBS series) and Liberties Kids, both on Netflix.

I think I will print out some blank narration pages for them to work on (MAYBE), but I really don't want to get too schooly. I may just read to them like crazy and soak in it, you know? I don't want to get burnt out and be un-refreshed for the upcoming fall. I may have to set some limits on myself....

I know what you mean. I have a vague recollection of last summer wanting to do something, but we just DID stuff instead. Experiences reined supreme with my husband off from teaching (he is a PS teacher). Our twins were 2 at the time and I was pregnant, so I did not go to a great deal of outings that year without him!

That is super cool!! God's timing, right?
I can totally relate. We did SOTW Vol 1 in 2 years.      It was too much fun to go through too fast.
