Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm not sure where to post this question. My 13 yodd is interested in learning a variety of languages. She thinks she may want to be an interpreter. Would learning Latin be a good idea? Any thoughts about which program to use? She'd like to learn Spanish and French eventually. She is learning American Sign Language.
Thanks and God bless,
Mary-NY

I think Latin is helpful in preparing for the SATs, but there are many ways to do that without Latin! Though Spanish and French are romance languages and have similar grammatical structures to Latin, I don't know that it would necessarily help her to learn Latin first. She won't have as many opportunities to practice Latin if she takes it on her own, so retention might be an issue. (I spoke Spanish fluently and took a little French before taking Latin. The Spanish background made learning Latin much easier. My older boys are taking Latin but they also have some Spanish background already. I don't think the Latin will help them progress faster in their Spanish.)
