What are you using for your high school Latin? We've done Latina Christiana 1 and 2 as well as Prima Latina. We're now on Henle 1 and it's not going so well. I feel like my boys are just guessing most of the time when they translate. No, actually they are guessing and freely admit it!
Any ideas? Should we try another program, drop Latin and just memorize root words (for vocab practice) or do another language?
Thanks!

We're taking a break from Latin right now (did LC 1 & 2, then Henle) -- so we're having fun with Bolchazy Carducci's books and Aesop's fables, plus Winnie Ille Pu on the side, just reading, translating, etc. Occasionally I'll get them online to do some declining so they don't forget. We'll probably go back to Henle in the fall when 13-yo starts with Kolbe.

What about Getting Started with Latin and the book following it called "The First Year of Latin" taught through Linney's Latin Class? "Getting Started with Latin" would be a good review and lead right into "The First Year of Latin."

We really liked the Getting Started with Latin book. It definitely is user friendly!

Hi Lisa,
My ds12 finished LC II and we are working at doing lots of review (Gr.7-8) with other material to build confidence, before trying Henle later on (Yr.9) That's the 'plan' anyway.
We almost gave up Latin, between LCI and LCII, but we stuck at it, certain things finally clicked and ds and I are enjoying it much more now. We can see the bigger picture.
To answer your question, I guess it would depend on if your boys liked Latin? Are they showing any interest in another language? My instinct would be not to give it up entirely - but that's just me...
Same ds12 really wanted to learn French like his little sister, but I really just didn't get around to it with him. Now we're doing mostly review for Latin, I've added in a bit of French at a very basic level - and he loves it!
I really like the look of Getting Started with Latin, and I've *heard* good things about First Form Latin - but haven't used either !!
Hmmm, perhaps, I'm not helping at all...
Emily.

My 2 oldest girls have done Henle with the Memoria Press Online Academy this year. It has been one of the best investments I've made since we started homeschooling 9 years ago!

The girls have homework scheduled each day but they often combine days. So the chat is approx 1 hour, sometimes slightly longer. The homework is about 1/2 hour each day on the non-chat days.

How timely these questions are for me, I'm trying to choose over choices too. I was planning on buying First Form Latin (books and DVDs) from Memoria Press but now I've been advised to take a good look at Galore Park Latin course.

How old was your child when you started Grammar I? Is this the one who had completed all of the other Latin?
