I'm not sure how, but we started getting a montly magazine called One -- it's published by the Catholic Near East Welfare Agency (or CNEWA). I think my dh must have sent them money.

Anyway, this is a papal agency that helps Catholics in the 3rd world countries -- not South America -- in the East. Places like India, Russia, Eatern Europe, Armenia, etc. The magazine is like a Catholic National Geographic but with lots of cool info about Eastern Rite Catholics,etc.

It'd make a great monthly geography study ... with lots of rabbit trails!

I love CNEWA. It is one of my favorite charities and their ONE magazine is superb, I agree!! I have learned so much about our Eastern churches and a lot of history about Eastern Rite/Orthodox relations from reading their excellent articles.

I would heartily recommend sponsoring a child through them, if you are able. We sponsor a brother and sister in Lebanon. CNEWA is awesome about sending us updates on them and the children often write letters or send drawings to us. Our kids have really benefitted from getting these letters and realizing that prayer and financial support can really make a difference in these children's lives...It is a tangible way to help the body of Christ.

Off my soapbox, now!

Oh, and their Mass Cards are the most beautiful I have ever seen.
