Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Rather than do history with dd this year(outside of what we get with FIAR) I have decided to have my dd read bios. I am wanting her to start with bios of Saints. Which Siants would you put at the top of your"must read"list? My dd is almost 7 and she is making her 1st communion this year as well.

Here are those we've done this year with my 6yos to prepare for their First Communions.

Helen's Special Picture about Sister Faustina--I love the description of her First Communion
Patrick by Tomie De Paola
St. George and the Dragon by Margaret Hodges
St. Gerard from True Stories for First Communicants
The Shepherd Children of Fatima--we watched a video
St. Bernadette of Lourdes
Their name saints
St. Gertrude
St. Juan Diego
St. Nicholas

Any saint who received Holy Communion miraculously has fueled their own longing to receive Jesus. St. Michael has received MANY prayers this year to bring Jesus to them.

We are preparing them to receive this summer (probably) since I see that their faith is there, their desire is high, and they are interested in the sacrament not the new clothes or the party. They are interested in gifts, but they both really want a St. medal on a necklace, so that seems ok with me. I worry if we wait, we'll miss that fire.

We've been narrating and illustrating them into a blank book of just saint bios. Can't wait to see other suggestions, especially if people have specific books they like.

The Little Flower: The Story of Saint Therese by Mary Fabyan Windeatt.

May need to read aloud to her (~5th-6th grade reading level)

Darlene,
As she is making her First Communion I would be reading Bl Imelda Lambertini patroness of First Communicants and also the story of St Tarcissus, patron of First Communicants.

My children (especially my 6yo dd) LOVED St. Elizabeth of Hungary when I read it to them this year. The reading level is about 5th-6th I think. It is part of the Vision Series.
