Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am so excited that we will be spending a few days in Williamsburg this December(thanks to the list member who helped us find somewhere to stay )We have visited at Christmas a few years ago - and it was lovely to just walk around and see the decorations and shops. But I am trying to figure out what we should pay to see with 6 children from 13 to 5 months old. Any recommendations - the daily ticket seems so expensive for 5 paying - but is this the way to go?

Also - can anyone recommend a church for Mass.

Thanks

There's St. Bede ... it used to be right off W&M campus, but has since moved ... I used to go there in grad school ... it wasn't great but it wasn't terrible (if ya know what I mean).

Check and see if they'll give you a homeschool discount ... I know they do it certain times of the year, but it never hurts to ask. Definitely check out the CW website and see what you can do/see free than whatever else is of interest ... I'd let the kids help choose what to see (as Wmbsurg is very kid-friendly, hard to go wrong with almost any of the sites -- altho mine were thoroughly bored at the bookbindery, but that was more the guide than the site itself (he was pretty darn dry).

There is a holiday planner you can download that has tons of the holiday stuff ... concerts, etc. The lighting at night is beautiful. It's just a beautiful time to be there ... especially if there is snow!

We just returned home from a wonderful time in Colonial Williamsburg - I so recommend going in the winter - it is incredibly beautiful with all the decorations and candles - also no lines and very family friendly.

Heads up too - although it was not the official homeschooling weeks - they had very generous deals for homeschoolers - it did not cost us much for a family of 8 to visit all the museums and historic sites. For the places that did not offer a home educators rate - eg Yorktown Victory Center - they have a very substantial triple A discount.

(Mary - thanks for the heads up about Saint Bedes - it took us forever to find it though as it is very hidden away - we got there during the homily! Not sure if you have seen the new church - wow, it is a HUGE building)

Thanks for updating, Marily. I'm glad you had such a great trip. I went to college in Williamsburg and St. Bedes was an older pretty church right in town. We had a hard time finding the new church last summer and I was disappointed in the 1970's "church in the round" feel to the new church. (And I mean perfectly round!) Didn't anyone let the architect and planners know that style is rather outdated?

If someone let you in on a hotel where you can get a suite to fit a family of 8, would you please pm me with the information? Thanks!
